Although
osteomyelitis and septic arthritis are now relatively rare in more developed
parts of the world, in the developing areas they continue to cause much
suffering, morbidity and disability, and may on occasion prove fatal.
They are most common between birth and the end of growth, but when associated
with HIV/AIDS can also create major problems in adults.
