Activities

A national action group has been formed. The actual number of particpating organisations is is 22, including 3 patient organizations and 2 allied health organizations. All organizations are represented by their presidents or vice-presidents at the meetings.

The Executive Summary exists in German printed version. Editorials have been published in "Zeitschrift für Orthopäde," "Orthopädie Mitteilungen," and "Deutsches Ärzteblatt."
On May 19th, 1999, the German National Action Group met for the very first time in Frankfurt. At the meeting a loose coalition was founded by 14 organisations. The next step is to define the national goals, identify areas of common interest and set the milestones for the next years. The activities will be promoted towards the public and support from the government will be requested. A charity foundation is in the initiation stage.

Five working groups with representatives of the involved organisations concentrating on the main disease areas of the Decade have been established and identify priorities and collaborative activities in these areas. Two areas will always be identified by the delegate conference for general awareness and focus of the "Deutsche Liga" for two years. The focused areas for 2000–2001 are osteoporosis and muskuloskeletal problems in childhood.

For efficiency in the day to day work a national steering committee was nominated by the delegate conference enclosing the National Coordinator and five more members. Beside one responsible person for the German Monitor Project, Public Relation and External Relations the spokesperson of the two actual focus areas are selected. A separate non-profit organisation is in the initiation stage.
