This year will see the beginning of the implementation of the lay awareness program of the Bone and Joint Decade. To date, the photo exhibit had been brought to Baguio City and Iloilo City and placed in areas of maximum exposure, i.e. Baguio Country Club and SM Mall in Iloilo City. The Council has encouraged all member societies to let their faculty of speakers bring the exhibit when they lecture in places outside Manila.
This year will also be the start of fund raising activities that will be used to fund the Council's research project, which is national in scope: Prevalence of Musculo-Skeletal Conditions among Filipinos. Data from this study will provide the medical community with much needed information in a unified manner, there being numerous independent and limited data on prevalence of musculoskeletal conditions in the country. The study proposal has been written and is ready to start. In this connection, the Council will hold a fundraiser planned in October, during the Bone and Joint Decade Action Week.
This year, the Philippine Council for the Bone and Joint Decade will coordinate activities for the Bone and Joint Decade Action Week on October 14-20 2001. The week will have different activities sponsored by the different specialty organizations involved with bone and joint conditions.
This year's activities is under the leadership of the Philippine Rheumatology Association(PRA). We enjoin every member of the PRA to work with the council for the success of this 10-year initiative. In so doing, we are party to the fulfillment of our own objectives that has materialized through collaborative efforts under the Bone and Joint Decade.
